When Joan Kroc made her gift to The Salvation Army, she wanted to ensure that operating the Kroc Centers would not negatively impact nor diminish the critical human services that The Salvation Army already delivers, like shelter, food, clothing and disaster relief.

She also knew that many people would not be able to pay what would normally cost to participate in such a center, so she established an endowment to support Kroc Center programs and operations.

The Salvation Army in Chicago has been awarded $109.8 million from the Kroc estate, which will need to be supplemented by a $50 million fundraising campaign to build and endow a Kroc Center in Chicago. The project represents a total investment in the community of $159.8 million.

When you make a gift to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, you will become a part of the largest project ever undertaken by The Salvation Army. And, your gift will be grounded in the reputation, trust and credibility of The Salvation Army, which is second to none – especially for its work among the poorest of the poor.
